The Black American Glossary began in 2011 with the idea in spreading the knowledge of historical Black (African) American culture, covering almost all occupations and milestones ‐ from music to business to national events ‐ that hopes to aid in emphasizing the importance of a history typically only acknowledged during the month of February.

A history full of growth, perseverance, ideas, trial and error, and dedication. This site is also a salute to the pioneers who have paved the way for all people of color, regardless of race or religion… brought to you with an artistic touch.

What is The Black American Glossary?

The Black American Glossary is a glossary of important Black (African) Americans from the past and present. A knowledgeable resource for young and old individuals, brought to you with an artistic touch.

The purpose of such a site is to emphasize the importance of a history typically only acknowledged during the month of February. A history full of growth, perseverance, ideas, trial and error, and dedication. This site is also a salute to the pioneers who have paved the way for all people of color, regardless of race or religion.



Is this site strictly history-based, or will you include current individuals also?

This site, while primarily historic presented regarding the individuals included, will also showcase current individuals those who have made an impact on the lives of many and most for years to come.



Why is the The Black American Glossary it is important to preserve history??

Many have said that our past reflects our future. While much of such can be true in some aspects, not obtaining the knowledge of others (culturally or otherwise) can hinder one's own potential and prowess. In the words of Carter G. Woodson, “Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.

Are profiles added during a specific time, or are they gradually added weekly, monthly, etc.?

Profiles are gradually added on a month-to-month basis, but there will be times when fluctuations will occur due to personal schedules and outside activities. Yet, continued contribution will still occur as our ancestors (and those before us), never had the luxury of such leisure. Time will still tick whether we stop or start, it all depends on whether the time used was worth stopping for.



Regarding newsletters, how many are sent… and I shouldn't expect these as spam, right?

Newsletters are sent whenever new entries are introduced (which is typically once each month). You won't be spammed… period.



Can I ask and/or submit suggestions?

Yes, by simply sending an e-mail or message on Twitter (via twitter.com/alanchall) or Tumblr and they will be observed, categorized and/or added in due time.
